We are a proud sponsor of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. This year’s theme, African Champions Unite, embodied Sanlam’s mission to be an African champion that fosters financial inclusion and confidence.
This year, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon made history as an Abbott World Marathon Majors Candidate. The 5 km and 10 km Peace Runs took place on 15 October, along with the 22 km trail run and 46 km trail marathon. The 42.2 km marathon took place on 16 October.
South Africa’s Stephen Mokoka won the marathon in 2:09:58, while Meseret Dinke Meleka of Ethiopia won the women’s race in 2:24:02.
For the first time ever, the event also featured an elite wheelchair race. America’s Aaron Pike won the men’s wheelchair race in 1:40:15, and Brazil’s Vanessa Cristina De Souza won the women’s wheelchair race in 1:57:48.
