The ‘African Growth Story’ category will honour the journalist who best captures the growth story of the African continent. This award is also open to journalists outside of South Africa.
An independent panel of judges – which includes media experts, an academic and an economist – will judge according to the following criteria: news value, impact, rigour in reporting, analytical value, originality, integrity, specialist knowledge and storytelling.
Please note: In an ongoing effort to streamline the entry and judging process, there are no longer separate “platform neutral” and “platform specific” categories. Rather one combined category that includes entries from all disciplines – print, TV, radio, online and multimedia – across business/ companies, economy, financial markets, consumer financial education and the African Growth Story.
The best performers in each medium – TV, Radio, Print and Online – across all five categories will be decided by the judges and announced on the awards evening as TV, Radio, Print and Online Financial Journalist of the Year.
The winner of each category receives a prize of R25 000 while the overall winner receives an additional R35 000, and the best newcomer merit award amounts to R20 000.
