Graduates Insurance

Focus on your career while we take care of life’s uncertainties.

You’ve worked hard to get your three-year degree or four-year diploma and are dedicated to growing your income. However, because we cannot predict unfortunate events like sickness and accidents , your ability to work and earn an income is not guaranteed. The good news is that our insurance solutions enable you to protect your income and provide for unplanned expenses when something happens.

Life Insurance

Have peace of mind that your family will be taken care of in the event of your death.

Life is unpredictable. No matter your age or how healthy you are, good health and a long life is never guaranteed. If you are responsible for your family's financial wellbeing, who will provide for them if you are no longer there? Life Insurance for Graduates can help your family pay for your funeral and their everyday living expenses at a time when they need it most.

Benefits

  • The costs that life insurance can help your family cover include:
    • Funeral costs
    • Regular living expenses
    • Repaying outstanding debt
    • Costs associated with the administration of your estate if you have one
  • Your beneficiaries will not pay tax on the proceeds of your life insurance
  • You can opt for the Final Expense Benefit that will pay out within 48 hours so that your family can cover immediate costs, such as funeral costs and daily essentials
  • If you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness and your life expectancy is less than one year, you will receive an immediate tax-free one-off pay-out
  • We will only ask you for your health and lifestyle information once when you take out the insurance. You don’t have to tell us if you change your occupation, lifestyle activities or smoking habits – we’ll carry this risk.

How it works

You make regular payments until you pass away. When you pass away, your nominated beneficiaries receive a tax-free one-off pay-out to the value of your cover.

How much will you pay?

The cost of the insurance will depend, amongst other things, on your age and your risk profile (how risky your lifestyle is, for example, whether you smoke or whether you participate in risky sports) when you take out the plan.

Disability Cover

Make sure you can pay your bills even if you cannot work because of disability.

If you fall seriously ill or are injured, you can become permanently disabled. This means you would no longer be able to work and earn an income. However, you and your family would still need money for your daily expenses and you may need to make changes to your lifestyle. Disability Cover for Graduates can give you peace of mind that you can afford these expenses.

Benefits

  • Protect and maintain your standard of living when you can no longer earn an income by covering your necessary expenses, including:
    • You and your family's basic living expenses
    • Expenses related to adjusting your home and car to support your disability
  • Our 3-in-1 cover pays for recognised, occupational and personal disability, including:
    • Loss of limbs
    • Disabilities that affect your employment
    • Conditions that leave you unable to take care of yourself
  • For enhanced cover, you have the option of combining your disability cover with the Whole Life Impairment Benefit, which will provide you with disability cover until the age of 70 or retirement – whichever comes first. It also covers you for impairments common in older people (like sight and hearing loss) even into retirement

How it works

You make monthly payments until you reach retirement or the age of 70 (if you have the Whole Life Impairment Benefit). If you become disabled before retirement or the age of 70, you will receive a one-off pay-out.

How much will you pay?

The cost of the insurance will depend, amongst other things, on your age and your risk profile (how risky your lifestyle is, for example, whether you smoke or whether you participate in risky sports) when you take out the plan.

Income Protection

Get a regular income even if you cannot work to protect your family and your lifestyle.

The financial freedom of earning an income is one of the best things about starting your career. But your income is not guaranteed. Serious illness or injury can cause temporary or permanent disability, which means you may be unable to work and lose your income. Income Protection for Graduates can help you maintain your lifestyle and cover your medical expenses with a regular income if you cannot work.

Benefits

  • Receive a monthly income if you lose your income because you are temporarily or permanently unable to work
  • There are three benefit options, which you can combine depending on your needs:
    • Disability income, which pays out for the period that you cannot work, which can be either temporary or permanent
    • Temporary disability income, which only pays out up to 24 months
    • Overhead expenses protector, which helps take care of your business expenses if you are self-employed
  • You can receive a monthly income up to age 70

How it works

You make monthly payments until your reach retirement. If are injured or fall ill before retirement, and you can prove your loss of income according to the relevant definition in the contract documents, you can submit a claim to receive your monthly payments.

How much will you pay?

The cost of the insurance will depend, amongst other things, on your age and your risk profile (how risky your lifestyle is, for example, whether you smoke or whether you participate in risky sports) when you take out the plan.

Critical Illness Cover

Pay for the extra expenses of living with a serious illness without financial difficulty.

Anyone can potentially be diagnosed with a critical illness, even if you are young and follow a healthy lifestyle. Getting the right treatment for a serious illness can cost a lot of money and your medical aid won’t necessarily cover all the bills. Critical Illness Cover for Graduates can help you pay for these expense and protect your financial well-being.

Benefits

  • The insurance covers additional medical expenses not covered by your medical aid and provides for unplanned expenses associated with adapting your lifestyle
  • We mostly pay out 100% of the cover when you are diagnosed
  • You have the flexibility to choose from a Core Benefit or a Comprehensive Benefit:
    • The Core Benefit covers the four most common severe illnesses – cancer, heart attack, stroke and coronary artery bypass
    • The Comprehensive Benefit covers an additional list of illnesses, in addition to the four severe illnesses above, that cause serious impairment and inability to work, as well as a catch-all claim event that pays for illnesses that are not on our list if it causes serious impairment

How it works

You make monthly payments until you reach retirement. If you are diagnosed with one of the insured illnesses before retirement, you receive a one-off pay-out. We pay 100% of the cover amount for the least to most severe levels of cancer, heart attacks, stroke and coronary artery bypass grafts.

How much will you pay?

The cost of the insurance will depend, amongst other things, on your age and your risk profile (how risky your lifestyle is, for example, whether you smoke or whether you participate in risky sports) when you take out the plan.

Sickness Benefit

Protect your income if you cannot work for a while because of sickness.

Your income is one of your greatest assets – it gives you the lifestyle you’re enjoying and helps you take care of your family. But what will happen if you fall ill or are injured and are unable to work for a period of time? The Sickness Benefit for Graduates gives you the certainty that you can maintain your lifestyle if you temporarily lose your income.

Benefits

  • You receive regular payments when you have to take sick leave due to illness, injuries or pregnancy complications
  • You can claim whether you work for a company or are self-employed, and you can even take out cover for your employees
  • You are covered for travel inside and outside South Africa
  • You can choose whether your benefits end at age 65 or 70
  • You have the option to choose the spouse and child protector which will greatly alleviate the financial strain should something happen to your spouse and child. Consider, for instance, the impact of taking time off work to care for a sick or injured child or to pay for a nurse when a spouse suffers from a serious illness.
  • Spouse protector will pay you the cover amount for a period of 6 months on the death or serious illness of your spouse
  • Child protector will pay you the cover amount for a period of 6 months on the death or serious illness of your child.

How it works

You make monthly payments. If you are booked off for longer than 14 days or 30 days (depending on your duties at work), you can claim for a sickness benefit. You can claim up to 3, 6, 12 or 24 monthly benefit payments, depending on the benefit payment period you have selected.
