Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, UCT
Consultant, Client Solutions (Sanlam Individual Life)
Growing up in a township in KwaMashu, Durban, Ndumiso almost became a professional soccer player in matric after having an offer from a club in Portugal. However, considering the risks and taking into account his family’s needs, he chose to study Actuarial Science instead, as it promised a more secure future.
He currently holds nine actuarial subject exemptions and plans to qualify as an Actuary in a few years, while not neglecting his passion for soccer as he still plays quite regularly.
Before joining Sanlam, he worked at General Reinsurance Africa Ltd. as an Actuarial Student specialising in group quotes in the Group Pricing department and went on to work at Medscheme as a Statistical Analyst in their Health Intelligence Unit. His Sanlam journey to date has been filled with empowering opportunities for growth as well as personal discovery. "I am very happy to work at Sanlam, as I am not only made to feel at home but my uniqueness and input is appreciated as well. Having the support from an understanding manager has made it easy to adapt in the company," he says.
"After my first year of joining the Group I was nominated for the Future Leaders Development Programme (FLDP). The programme was very much empowering and has enabled me to become more assertive and confident about my abilities and allowed me to move from a fixed to a growth mindset. In addition, Sanlam’s Actuarial Bursary Programme with its generous study time policy has proven to be beneficial towards my board exams and has also provided me with mentorship. The opportunity to have Kirshan Reddy, Chief Executive of SPF Actuarial as my mentor, has played a significant role in my inspiration to qualify as an actuary and pursue further growth."
He aspires to be a thought leader and an improve-agent committed to adding value. Ultimately his goal is to empower and open more doors of opportunity for those who have gone through similar struggles as he has. Ndumiso believes that enabling people to move from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset will be the determining factor that will allow them to turn potential into performance and reality.
