Offshore Offering

A dilemma often faced by high net worth individuals is how to optimise the performance of their offshore investments while still dealing directly with a South African company. Finding the right international partners becomes critically important. As an SPI client, you’ll be one of an elite few who can enjoy the best of both worlds. Not only do you gain access to the top echelon of global partners; you’re assured of comprehensive local support from a premier-league South African company. And, of course, we’ll appoint your own SPI portfolio manager, to provide you with face-to-face contact that is both expert and professional.

A customised offshore strategy, designed around you.

No two people are motivated to invest offshore for precisely the same reasons, nor are their requirements ever quite the same. Every offshore investment strategy starts with your own set of circumstances, your ideas being a vital part of the brief. Whether your requirements include a global stockbroking service, a customised share portfolio or access to top performing mutual funds; our carefully selected global partners can provide for your every need.

What SPI can offer you?

  • Bespoke global portfolio

  • You can take full advantage of the Pictet team’s ability to structure a global investment portfolio around your unique personal circumstances. In building your optimum portfolio, Pictet will utilise the appropriate asset classes and the full spectrum of investment instruments to achieve your investment goals. The minimum investment is US$ 400 000, and although the investments will have global reach, you may prefer US dollars, Pound Sterling, Euros or Swiss Francs as the reporting currency. Your investment solution will be customised across a spectrum of risk profiles, asset classes (or combination thereof) and geographical spread. You’ll have 24/7 online access to your portfolio, with state-of-the-art security. Your local portfolio manager will be on hand to facilitate interaction with the Pictet team.

  • Global portfolio

  • This option has been designed specifically for SPI clients who want to benefit from Pictet’s investment expertise, but with much lower entry levels. The minimum investment amount is US$ 50 000. The Pictet team will utilise the full range of investment instruments and asset classes, packaged in a mutual fund structure for efficiency. You can select from a range of themed mutual funds including amongst others Gold, Clean Energy and Biotech. Your local portfolio manager can implement your choice of investment.

  • Global trading account

  • This is ideal for clients who would like to participate in decisions regarding their investment and who have the time and knowledge to make those choices. This option is available through both Pictet and Credo, but the entry level differs. For Pictet, the minimum investment amount is US$ 400 000, whilst it’s US$ 50 000 for Credo. Your choice of investment isn’t limited to stockbroking – it can be any listed instrument on any of the major stock exchanges in the world; cash account facilities in all the major currencies as well as access to a large number of global mutual funds. Your local portfolio manager will be available to process your investment instructions.

  • Portfolio of international mutual funds

  • This option allows you direct access to a carefully selected spread of global mutual funds that SPI have negotiated with and made available to clients. The portfolio includes single-managed, multi-managed and hedge funds. The portfolio manager can invest on your behalf and process your investment instruction. The administration and reporting is done from South Africa.

The Global Equity Fund invests only in equities and its performance is benchmarked against the MSCI All World Index. The minimum investment amount is US$10 000. The fund’s investment objective is to provide above-average long-term capital growth. Because this is a single asset class portfolio, the risk rating is moderately aggressive.

    SIM Global

The SIM Global Team focuses on finding:

    • Undervalued companies
    • Undiscovered companies (generally small-cap companies)

    • Turn-around situations

    • Companies with good growth prospects.

The small, efficient team, under the inspiring leadership of seasoned portfolio manager Kokkie Kooyman, focuses on propriety research as a core competency whilst parent company SIM provides the operational backup.

The SIM Global team passionately believes in its operational and investment model. Individual- and team reward are directly linked via bonuses to outperformance for clients. Bonuses aren’t paid out but re-invested in the team’s funds. As a direct result of this initiative, the approach leads to volatile return in the short term and outperformance in the long term.
