The Sanlam Group has been involved in multi-management since 1998, largely through managing international assets on global markets. The South African multi-manager business grew out of this international experience, and by the end of 2001 had become firmly established.
Sanlam Multi-Manager International (SMMI) is an investment management business dedicated to active multi-management investing. It forms part of the Investment Cluster within Sanlam Group, however operates independent from the conventional investment management activities within the Sanlam Group, both in terms of staff as well as investment decisions. SMMI manages assets in excess of R100bn via more than 70 different funds for over 40 000 clients. The sharing of intellectual capital, proprietary tools and information ensures that the business is keenly competitive on a global basis.
SMMI's investment philosophy is based on the belief that if you select the best managers in the world, combine them in ways that optimise their talents, and adopt a tactical approach to asset allocation, then significant and sustainable alpha generation is possible.
