Equity Structuring unit
The main objective of the Equity Structuring business is to provide equity and equity-linked finance and structuring skills to South African corporates.
The unit will have two broad focus/product areas:
Arbitrage
A proprietary hedge fund type operation, which is largely focused on opportunistic and analytical risk taking in South African listed companies.

Sanlam Securities
Sanlam Securities, a division of Sanlam Capital Markets (SCM), operates as a leading fully-fledged discount stockbroker on behalf of global institutions, hedge funds and banks as well as high net-worth individuals.
We operate independently from global stock broking houses and asset management firms. This allows our highly skilled team to deliver pure trade execution to our clients efficiently, economically and timeously. Supporting this ability, is our collective trading experience of more than 50 years.
Apart from traditional broking services, Sanlam Securities has innovatively pioneered electronic access to the Johannesburg Securities Exchange in South Africa. Sanlam Securities was the first broker to offer direct market access (DMA) in South Africa and has continued to enhance its product range with systems such as algorithmic trading programmes, which access real-time information and efficient execution of trade strategies, and order management systems (OMS).

Corporate Actions and Custody Services
Sanlam Securities can hold securities in custody on behalf of clients, and managing all corporate actions, such as share splits, declaration of dividends and rights issues, facilitating the transfer of shares to the STRATE settlement system. This service is currently offered at no additional service fee.
Exchange Traded Funds (EFT’s)
Sanlam Securities is the official market maker in all South African EFT’s, namely Satrix 40, SatrixIndi and SatrixFini. SCM, the parent company of Sanlam Securities, was instrumental in the initiation and development of these products. It is our intention to continue to develop the market for these funds and products by providing an efficient and liquid market.
Since its inception, Satrix has captured over a third of the index tracker market in South Africa and as at 31 August 2007, its assets under management were valued at over R7.06 billion. The benefits of low transaction costs, low maintenance as the fund is managed to track the constituents of the respective indices, no management fee and the continued price efficiency of the units have all been instrumental in making this a very attractive investment for both pension fund managers as well as individual investors
Sanlam Prime Services
Sanlam Prime Services (SPS) is a prime brokerage business and a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanlam Capital Markets (SCM). SPS provides services to streamline the front- to middle-office operations of hedge funds. Hedge Funds clients will benefit from extensive portfolio management tools, streamlined trade order management and execution, and real-time pre-trade compliance testing and monitoring on a single integrated platform for derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange and equities.
