Some corporate achievements in 2007 and 2008

 

  • Sanlam again received an A Rating against the Financial Sector Charter for our Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment initiatives. This is the highest rating financial services companies can achieve.

  • We were ranked as the 19th (56th in 2006) most empowered company listed on the JSE by Empowerdex.

  • For the fourth consecutive year we were listed on the JSE Socially Responsible Investment Index, which for the first time adopted international criteria.

  • Sanlam received a positive corporate governance assessment by Deutsche Bank measured against an international best practice set of criteria last year.

  • Sanlam Investment’s flagship fund, The Sanlam Global Best Ideas Fund, has been top 10 out of 600 global peers in 2007 and the Sanlam Global Financial Fund was rated by Morningstar as number one over all reporting periods since its inception in 2004.

  • African Life achieved accreditation from the international Investors In People Standards. Earlier, Sanlam Personal Finance became the first life company in South Africa to receive full accreditation.

  • For the eighth time since its listing in 1998, the Investment Analysts Society of Southern Africa voted Sanlam as the best communicator to its shareholders in the Financial – Life Assurance and Insurance Sector of the JSE in 2007.

  • For the second year running in 2007, Sanlam was rated first in the long-term insurance industry for client service in the independent Ask Africa Orange Index survey. In addition, the client contact centre of Sanlam Personal Finance won the best customer service award in the Western Cape and was the only financial institution among the top three of the National Business Processing Enabling South Africa awards. It was also voted one of the top 100 call and contact centres in the world.

  • The Board Barometer, compiled by Terranova and Leaders Unlimited in 2008, rated Sanlam’s Board of Directors among the top three out of 110 listed companies in terms of composition and performance.
