Sing’it Lyrics Competition

Sanlam strongly cares about embracing talented artists from all corners of our country.

That is why we have partnered with LitNet, MK (DSTV Channel 324) and nine of South Africa’s most famous musicians, inviting talented songwriters to submit their lyrics to be recorded as an official music single with one of the eminent artists.

The competition was launched on 7 September 2011 and entries closed at the end of October 2011.Since then, the judges – who also happen to be the nine artists – have had to sift through the entries, select their favourite lyrics and compose an official single.

The nine unknown and incredibly talented songwriters chosen, are:

Andre Vrdoljak (Song: Zombies in the bathroom) chosen by HHP
Bruno Andries (Song: Bonnie and Clyde) chosen by Karen Zoid
Kevin Murphy (Song: Inspired by) chosen by iScream and the Chocolate Stix
Michelle Fransis (Song: Magic) chosen by Niserone & SFR
Natascha Swart (Song: Silent memory) chosen by DJ Cleo
Pierre Smith (Song: Die ouer ek) chosen by Dans Dans Lisa
William de Bruin (Song: Ederskerwe Israeliet) chosen by Bittereinder
Zani Mari Vosges (Song: Panik button) chosen by Jax Panik

In addition to having their lyrics chosen, each songwriter receives an iPad2 and R3 000.

MK – From a cross-cultural collaboration point of view, musicians and songwriters from all over South Africa will have the chance to work together, and are bound to influence one another's work. This should reflect in the quality and diversity of recordings that the process will produce.
