Our Strategy
As the HIV/Aids epidemic will undoubtedly have a major impact on the South African economy and by extension on Sanlam, the Sanlam Executive Committee ratified a preliminary HIV/Aids strategy in early 2001. Subsequently we asked a multi-disciplinary AIDS task team, consisting of employees from across the business, to develop an HIV/Aids strategy for the company.
The Sanlam HIV/Aids strategy has four focus areas. They are prevention, management of employees (prevention of functional impairment [disability] due to HIV infection), confidentiality and elimination of discrimination, and stakeholder engagement. The stakeholders in question include employees of the Sanlam Group, Sanlam field staff, shareholders, business partners, Government and health service providers.
The key success indicators for the implementation of our strategy are: leadership from the top, accountability from the groups involved, the autonomy of the various Sanlam businesses to drive their own HIV/Aids initiatives, a dedicated AIDS task team and adequate human resources to keep our initiatives active.
We’ve instituted various sound monitoring mechanisms to keep the strategy alive.
