Description of the position
Primary responsibilities:

  • Assist in monitoring compliance with applicable legislation and internal requirements
  • Review draft mandates and investment guidelines for compliance purposes and follow up on outstanding mandates and investment guidelines. Monitor compliance with mandates and investment guidelines within reporting timeframes to clients and management
  • Advise management, employees and clients on all compliance and regulatory matters that affect business decisions
  • Analyze proposed new legislation, comment to the applicable persons, inform and comment to the applicable employees
  • Assist in developing, promoting, implementing and maintaining compliance standards and procedures that enable employees to act in a compliant manner
  • Assist with the proper establishment and maintenance of procedures on the identification, reporting and resolution of breaches and other compliance and regulatory issues

Description of the position
Primary responsibilities:

  • Management of Financial Accountants and Reconciliation Officers that reports to the specific Senior Financial Accountant position
  • Training and coaching role for Financial Accountants and Reconciliation Officers in the Fund Accounting department
  • Weekly high level review of triangle and bank reconciliations prepared by reconciliation officers
  • Monthly high level review of the general ledger reconciliations
  • Assisting with and resolution of queries relating to triangles, bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations not resolved by the team
  • Opening and closing of fiscal periods per fund allocated
  • Review of the Monthly/Quarterly trustee reports consisting of administration and financial information
  • Compilation and/or review of several reports (EXCO report and gain share reporting relating to SLA’s) PAYE - co-ordinating the timely bi-annual IRP5 reconciliations and submissions to SARS
  • Review of monthly Bank declaration and bank analysis
  • Review of the calculation and management of adhoc expense recoveries from member records relating to specific funds
  • Review and assist with the drafting of Annual Financial statements on the Caseware program and the preparation of audit files
  • Preparation of the audit plan and management of the prepared plan to ensure that all the departments involved in the audit of the fund complies to the audit plan
  • Interact with various departmental managers across the business to ensure timely delivery or required audit plan information
  • Assistance with the queries raised by the actuaries, auditors, trustees and audit committee members of the funds
  • Preparation of audit committee meeting and trustee meeting information to be included in the packs distributed and presenting this information at the relevant meetings
  • General assistance to the Fund Accounting Manager where necessary
